For my dog. I had no idea that dogs could even take Xanax.
Quick back story: When Brutus was a pup, we had to board him for a weekend so we could go to my brother's wedding. When we picked him up, the asshole who runs the place told us that Brutus had been in a "bit of a scuffle" with another dog, but they had cleaned up the cuts. I was beyond livid, DH actually had to drag me out of there.
As a result, Brutus now has serious anxiety issues around other dogs. He will actually start "dog screaming" and his whole body goes rigid. It's horrible.
Anyway, I had to take him to the vet's for his yearly shots the other day and he started "screaming" in the waiting room. I felt horrible and mortified all at the same time. I couldn't calm him down and people were staring at me with judgy faces. Good times.
We get into the little room and my vet gets right to the point. Brutus, as a result of his boarding trauma, needs a little help learning that the world is not going to eat him alive. She tells me she is going to write a prescription for Xanax to "take the edge off" and to let her know if it helps.
Guess where I have to have the prescription filled? CVS.
Pharmacist: Oh, is this for your son?
Me: No... It's for my dog.
Pharmacist: ::gives me side eye:: Really? I didn't know dogs could take Xanax. I am going to have to talk to my supervisor about this.
Me: Fine, whatever you need to do. Call the vet if you like. I swear I am not trying to scam you for anxiety medication.
Pharmacist: I doubt your insurance is going to cover this...
Me: What else is new.
It all worked out fine, but having the pharmacist look at me like I was a desperate housewife trying to get my pill fix was the cherry on top.

Poor brutus! Hope the meds help him. The Pharmacist sounds like a DoucheBag!
LOL! Abby is on Prozac for her OCD (for real), and I get it at the Target pharmacy. Aren't dogs fun?
I thought I was ridiculous about my cats when one got feline acne. The vet told me to treat it with SeaBreeze. She has her own bottle, complete with cotton pads. BTW, it works. Next she'll be wanting her own bottle of Xanax.
Did they really think you'd name your kid Brutus? LOL
My dog takes it too for thunderstorms. She freaks out and has panic attacks so I mentioned it to the vet one time and 30 minutes later I was getting the crazy eye at the pharmacy.
OHmg....seriously I was laughing so damn hard last night at your last two posts, my husband was like what the hell is wrong with you, why are you crying? At that point I read them both aloud to him and he joined in....
Seriously love your writing, and love your blog.
WOW. I worked at a "dog academy" where we boarded dogs as well all through high school and college. Had The incident that happened to Brutus occurred with any dog there would have been HELL to pay. Wow is all I can say. Hope Xanax is able to do all it's said to be for poor Brutus.
Stopping by to say HI. I adore the Cape (my Dad grew up in Newton so we'd visit often and my brother lived in Sandwich for a bit). It's wonderful in all seasons, but it is snotty of me to admit I like it best in the off seasons of fall and winter when there aren't as many tourists (since ahem, I'm a tourist?!)
Happy Friday to you from one SITS Sista to another!!
